Diary of an exhausted working electrical engineer

In the first episode you read about my ordeal and frustration related to not getting placed “Diary of a frustrated electrical engineer” and in the second episode you empathized along with me on the topic of getting placed “Diary of an employed electrical engineer”. Kya karun......Nolan to nahi hun, but had to complete the trilogy anyway… This here is the last episode the concluding episode...The dark episode, the episode with the dark realities...nothing in this episode is a work of fiction.

8..it has been 8 full months for me playing the role of an electrical engineer. Yeah, playing the role, because each day I have to just pretend that I know what I should know as an electrical engineer, just like an actor does. Just like an actor each day I put up the uniform and be someone else.

Well anyways, putting resentments aside...Hello again I am Charlie here, coping up with the employed life, still reminiscent about college life, trying to strike a balance between work and social life( no need to panic, still single, social life ends up with one phone call to my parents.)...

Time badal gaya but me nhi badla
Me abhi bhi wahi Charlie hun jo abhi bhi har year badi ummeed ke sath bina padhe CAT ka exam deta hai, aur fir result kharab aane pe kehta hai "yaar padhai nhi ho paayi thi". Wahi Charlie jo aaj bhi har ek job portal pe apna CV upload karta hai, is ummeed me ki kahin se to call aayegi. Wahi Charlie jo LinkedIn pe doston ko keh kar apne aap ko endorse karwata hai is ummeed me ki shayad kisi recruiter ki najar uski profile pe padh jaaye. Wahi Charlie jo aaj bhi The Hindu apni vocab improve karne ke liye padhata hai. Wahi Charlie jo aaj bhi thesaurus ki help leke bhari bhari words apne blog me jabardasti daalta hai.

To be honest socha to tha ki job me aish karenge, will get to learn new things, corporate culture me jiyenge,   salary aaya karegi....jam ke udayenge, but aisa kuch nhi hota...trust me after a point it's  just getting up, punching in, somehow managing to get through the day, punching out, get rest, getting up, punching in...

This employed life of mine brings about a thought in my mind:-
Saala is liye itni laatein khayi thi mene us din

Wo bhi kya din they …..”class chalega??..”…..”abbey chodd man nahi hai”
Aur ab “abbey Sunday hai kahin chalein?”…”yaar kaam hai office jana padega”

“Oye assignment kar liya”…”abbey chap denge raat me beth key nhi bhi hua to kaat lega jitney number katne hain usne”
Boss-“report ready??”..” yes sir, just needs some final touch, sir I have put my soul into this”

It would be enought to end this post with this picture and this question " kya yehi life hai??"

Koi Horror Movie Suggest Kar Yaar

Well, sometimes in life there might be times when you will have to face criticism and bear expletives thrown upon you. Reason being, they asked for some advice and you gave it to them based on the advice you received from someone else. The catch being, you never used the advice for yourself.

If you are still reading this post or maybe skipped and started to read from here instead, then you must know that this piece of writing can also be labelled as a movie review. The incident has made 3 people lose their interest in horror genre and all 3 for them have ceased to consider my advice and suggestions about movies.
It was one fine dark night. Few of my friends decided to watch a movie…a horror movie…lights  switched off, speakers at full bass( to get that eerie supernatural sound you get during horror movies)…ambiance was properly taken care of. But they had a bit of conflict in coming up to a consensus over which movie to watch. There…there came my part. They thought of taking suggestion from me.

Friend: “Yaar tu aisi movie bata de jis se fatt si jaye bas”.
Me: “Hmm….horror movie..haan, you have heard about blair witch project. It’s based on true events, even the footage they have used is real”
F: “Blair witch project…ok..”

 A few minutes later…
F:”I checked its IMDb, only 6.3. is this movie any good”
M:”IMDb pe to mujhe kabi trust raha hi nahi hai…kitni hi boring movies ko achi rating mil jaati hai…aur fir horror movies ko to kabhi bhi achi rating nahi milti…usme bhi movie zombie-wombie pe ho to movie comedy jyaada lagti hai”
“Yahan bhi yahi case hai, tum log movie dekho to sahi( all this said without watching the movie myself just to convince them and make my point)”
F: “Chal Ok, ab tu itna keh rha hai to”

After 1 hour and 21 minutes (or maybe before that) later…. I heard my door being knocked rather banged aggressively…
M: “Abe itni ghatiya movie…aadhe ghante tak kuch hua nahi to hamne socha saari mystery last me reveal hogi, ho sakta hai fir thodi fate…magar nahi…shoot bhi saali aise ki hai ki sar me dard ho gya”
A long list of profanities later from their side I could make out they didn’t like the movie and I may be responsible for devastating their 1 hour and 81 minutes. This incident ended here. Anyone would have used SHIFT+DEL there and then, but I thought of giving it a shot. It still occupies space on my hard disk which led to recurrence of same incident once again when I recommended it to one more friend of mine. Well, maybe because I wanted to know if it was the view of a group of people or really the movie is bad. The movie is disaster….prooved.
But still I keep that movie  with me….Hehehehe..not to recommend it to someone…to watch it myself one day…

GAME OF PP, CP & LIKES in final year

From my personal daily facebook liking, commenting and sharing experience (and as everyone would agree to) dekha jaaye to final year has been about uploading profile pictures and cover pictures in relevance with the status quo. Applies to each and every one with some exception pointed out at the end. There have been phases to this trend.

Ek ke baad ek mausam aate hain.

Pehle hua placement. Profile pic changed to company insignia. Cover pic kese bach jaegi. Wahan bhi company ka poster chipka diya jaega.

Placement k baad party to banti hai.

Bande jyaada. To aisa karte hain cover pic change kar dete hain.

Phir aap gaye Goa.

Ab Goa gaye hain to why don’t we change the profile pic to some snap with sunglasses, with waves and sand in the background. Ya fir dil chahta hai wala pose bhi to hai. Bike bhi to li thi rent pe, uspe baith ke banega pose. Koi Russian ke sath pic mil jaaye fir to baat hi kya hai.Like aa jane chahiye 150-200. Bas aur kya chahiye.

Ab aayi baari farewell ki

Boys suited up and girls sizzled in sarees. Yahan to koi panga hi nahi hai. Bando ke liye to single wali profile pic ban gayi and group wali cover pic. Bhale hi apna kuch na hai, dikhna lekin chikna hai. Suit liya pappu se, shoes liye gappu se.

Yahan bandiyon ne back pose and side pose ko likes kamaane ke liye use kiya. Sab likes ka khel hai bhaiya.

The pic has been uploaded and captioned. The game of thrones likes starts now. But yaar aajkal to har koi chalte phirte hi like  maar deta hai. 100 to yuhi ban jaate hain. But, dabang to wo hai jo 300 cross kar jaaye.

Well going with the trend, suit wali me bhi upload kar hi deta hun.
Ha to shuru me exception ki baat hui thi, Charlie aapne trend follow nhi kiya????

Nahi Bhulunga Me

With few months left in college, I think it’s time for the nostalgic stuff to surface.
The following lines picture how I presently keep the electrical department in memory and how I might remember it in future.

Wo department ka sutte se mehekna
aaka ka rajnigandha chabate firna
wo vkj ka paan singh kehlaana
nahi bhulunga me
jab tak hai jaan
jab tak hai jaan

Wo jhajharia ka PPT me
sabke saamne so jaana
but ppt end hone pe
kuch bhi bakwas kar jaana
in the end random grades pakda dena
nahi bhulunga me
jab tak hai jaan
jab tak hai jaan

Wo rag ka sine wave ke basis pe
number thamana
attendance me lecture nikal jaana
mushkil se kabhi padhane ke jazbe ko
nahi bhulunga me
jab tak hai jaan
jab tak hai jaan

Wo aaka ka hindi ki kakshaon me
kabhi kabhi STLD padha jaana
wo uska bhavnao me behkar
party ka jhoota waada kar jaana
world cup jeete jaane ke baad
“venue decide kar lo, menu decide kar lo”
bas yahi kehte reh jaana
nahi bhulunga me
jab tak hai  jaan
jab tak hai jaan

Wo pehli baar full access wala IEEE chalana
seminar date ka paas aana
wo final year me mentor k chakkar lagana
nahi bhulunga me
jab tak hain jaan
jab tak hai jaan

(You might add few more lines to this in the comments section..)

DIARY OF AN EMPLOYED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Sequel to

DIARY OF A FRUSTRATED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Disclaimer: I suppose you might have read the previous narrative of mine and the account you are gonna experience ahead is from the Charlie himself.

Hi …the name is Charlie…and I’m back…back with a job.

The last post was the outcome of one of the many unsuccessful trips to PTP (courtesy Deloitte.) and the journey continued in the same manner raising the frustration with each episode. Let’s talk statistics, made constructive use of Facebook by applying for 30 companies, developed more than 10 weaknesses and strengths and can tell me about myself in the best possible way result of facing 10 interviews , aur kher written to nikal hi jaata hai.(14 writtens)

Let’s shift to the post midterm vacations. Well they say and I quote “frustration can make you do horrible things”: I decided to stay back at hostel and thought of opening a new GATE…I did manage some Xerox copies…..If anybody wants …you are welcome….

In that 1 week more or less…..i tried to learn some basics….got cleared some…..laziness overcome others….and also the T20series….the live streaming was damn good…… Then came another string of continuous rejections….. Honda…Emerson ...Lafarge….JCB….even the totka of Gaurav’s shirt didn’t work…(which by the way had given 4/4 placements till that time)

Till now I had kinda lost hope of getting  anything….literally….from this college……my CAT percentile already made the blast by not even crossing(forget the 99 mark) the 90 mark….and I had lost the gamble worth 14k…..ask any of the dedicated PT fellows…..no hard feelings…

Then came the DAY…..

I was cool….core company hai….bhai TATA hai TATA with POWER.
The written was nothing kinda new….ab to technical written nikalne ki aadat bhi ho gyi thi….next day I was shortlisted for the GD round….then guess what (sentiyapaaaaa alert….)…for the first time in the history of  my post-written experiences, I called home….yeah!  for the FIRST time in the 30th one……"that I have cleared the written round…..now there will be GD….then interview…. blah.. blah.. blah…." and pitaji ne pucha "beta package kitna hai".

And let’s just mention the incidental conspiracy which shattered my hopes as the sole winner seemed quite obvious at that point of time.

Now comes the denouement (don’t worry……just tried the WordWeb here)……The name was announced……and I couldn’t even cry…..I was like……jaane do yaar jyaada hi senti ho jaega…. I think I should end it…….

P.S.: Every dog has its day……this time it was charlie’s….13/1/13.

I Have A Super Power

Thoda PJ type ka post hai…bear karna…acha lage to like wike, comment womment, share-ware kar dena….nahi to pageview to badh hi gya.

The other day when I ended up watching “The Avengers”, it struck me. Yaar, I think I too have some super power. ….I have been feeling different lately….maybe I have some deep shrouded secret power…. And fact be told, most of the days when I wake up in the morning, I feel like having it in me. The feeling which I cannot put in words.

Wo kehte hain na “Every living being has got a power enshrouded deep beneath his soul, he just needs to unleash it and put it to use”---( most probably said by  Morgan Freeman in some movie). The quote motivated me to search myself inside-out.

and then it started….the quest for the superpower….

But when nothing significant surfaced after hours of arduous soul searching and day-dreaming I decided to have lunch and then have a nap (well, to be frank, my naps last for at least 3 hours, give or take 2 hours, to be honest it is never take). When I woke up, it hit me. Epiphany!!!. Maybe I am a super sleeper.

I then recalled from my previous years that yes, even after sleeping for 4-5 hours during day I could again give an encore as early as 11 pm.Damn, I have done the Herculean task of sleeping for a whole day, 24 hours. I am capable of falling asleep in buses, trains sitting as well as standing. Yeah!!, true it is…I have accomplished the task of taking a nap during a bus journey standing.

So, there I was happy and glee, done finding my superpower.

But then, Ironman gets his power from some nuclear device he wears in his chest, Thor is some God and has his hammer, apna Spiderman got bitten by some genetically modified spider, Batman has his super tech weapons and vehicles and of course his left hand Alfred. What do I have supporting me, my enabler? It then occurred to me at this point; maybe it’s the mess food. It is the holy power source which makes me what I am. After all, I got my power only after entering college, and that’s when mess food started.

Although the following quote has nothing to do with the above matter…. Just wanted to end this post with something strong.

“But with great power comes great responsibility”.

It actually has. Some might associate adjectives like lazy and sloth with me, but only I and few like me know the pain of dealing with “paani nahi aa raha” statements when I wake up late. But I bear it on me, silently, maybe it’s the price I need to pay, and I do pay.

DIARY OF A FRUSTRATED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Hi, I’m Charlie. I’m a final year student at MNIT Jaipur. My branch is electrical engg.
When I came back to college after holidays, I was very optimistic about my placement. I was like “mera to ho hi jaega yaar”. I have good CGPA “branch bhi meri sahi h”. Electrical dude, electrical!!. “core branch hai”. At the time of admissions, I was even getting Computer Sc., but I opted for electrical. People said that it is an evergreen branch. There will never be recession in this field. Me being too naive to understand such things did what everybody advised. There was some kind of slump, a bit of recession in IT sector when I was in first year. So, I often used to mock computer guys.

Fast forward to placement season. ZS Associates is gonna visit tomorrow. The first company. I digged about the company a bit, found it to be a consulting firm and thought “ consulting me thodi jaunga yaar, apan to core me jayenge”. But, as I had already filled the registration form, I had to appear for the written round. Cleared it… Appeared for the case study round…couldn’t/didn’t clear it, because “yaar mujhe to jana hi nhi tha”. I have heard that BPCL is gonna visit in October and my friend who is actually a close friend of BC says “meri BC se baat ho gyi hai”, ace companies like TATA Power, Siemens, Alstom are coming too, but they’ll be visiting late. He advised me to chill.

But, with course of time it started getting clear. People did get placements, but not from our branch. Companies did visit, but didn’t hire anyone from our branch. Among all these setbacks, they even said something about Siemens not being open for electrical guys this year and the thing about PSUs totally messed up the scenario.

But, I maintained my calm. At this point of time,

what other branch guys think “tera to ho hi jaega yaar”
what my branch guys think “kisi ka nahi hona, GATE ki preparation kar lo”
what I think “chill, le aa, server banaye”.( let's play CS)

With Deloitte I had hope. But, here I am today, posting “congrats bhai….phod diya…:)” on someone else’s wall and kicking their ass in frustration.

Maybe "It's about time".
