DIARY OF AN EMPLOYED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Sequel to

DIARY OF A FRUSTRATED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Disclaimer: I suppose you might have read the previous narrative of mine and the account you are gonna experience ahead is from the Charlie himself.

Hi …the name is Charlie…and I’m back…back with a job.

The last post was the outcome of one of the many unsuccessful trips to PTP (courtesy Deloitte.) and the journey continued in the same manner raising the frustration with each episode. Let’s talk statistics, made constructive use of Facebook by applying for 30 companies, developed more than 10 weaknesses and strengths and can tell me about myself in the best possible way result of facing 10 interviews , aur kher written to nikal hi jaata hai.(14 writtens)

Let’s shift to the post midterm vacations. Well they say and I quote “frustration can make you do horrible things”: I decided to stay back at hostel and thought of opening a new GATE…I did manage some Xerox copies…..If anybody wants …you are welcome….

In that 1 week more or less…..i tried to learn some basics….got cleared some…..laziness overcome others….and also the T20series….the live streaming was damn good…… Then came another string of continuous rejections….. Honda…Emerson ...Lafarge….JCB….even the totka of Gaurav’s shirt didn’t work…(which by the way had given 4/4 placements till that time)

Till now I had kinda lost hope of getting  anything….literally….from this college……my CAT percentile already made the blast by not even crossing(forget the 99 mark) the 90 mark….and I had lost the gamble worth 14k…..ask any of the dedicated PT fellows…..no hard feelings…

Then came the DAY…..

I was cool….core company hai….bhai TATA hai TATA with POWER.
The written was nothing kinda new….ab to technical written nikalne ki aadat bhi ho gyi thi….next day I was shortlisted for the GD round….then guess what (sentiyapaaaaa alert….)…for the first time in the history of  my post-written experiences, I called home….yeah!  for the FIRST time in the 30th one……"that I have cleared the written round…..now there will be GD….then interview…. blah.. blah.. blah…." and pitaji ne pucha "beta package kitna hai".

And let’s just mention the incidental conspiracy which shattered my hopes as the sole winner seemed quite obvious at that point of time.

Now comes the denouement (don’t worry……just tried the WordWeb here)……The name was announced……and I couldn’t even cry…..I was like……jaane do yaar jyaada hi senti ho jaega…. I think I should end it…….

P.S.: Every dog has its day……this time it was charlie’s….13/1/13.

I Have A Super Power

Thoda PJ type ka post hai…bear karna…acha lage to like wike, comment womment, share-ware kar dena….nahi to pageview to badh hi gya.

The other day when I ended up watching “The Avengers”, it struck me. Yaar, I think I too have some super power. ….I have been feeling different lately….maybe I have some deep shrouded secret power…. And fact be told, most of the days when I wake up in the morning, I feel like having it in me. The feeling which I cannot put in words.

Wo kehte hain na “Every living being has got a power enshrouded deep beneath his soul, he just needs to unleash it and put it to use”---( most probably said by  Morgan Freeman in some movie). The quote motivated me to search myself inside-out.

and then it started….the quest for the superpower….

But when nothing significant surfaced after hours of arduous soul searching and day-dreaming I decided to have lunch and then have a nap (well, to be frank, my naps last for at least 3 hours, give or take 2 hours, to be honest it is never take). When I woke up, it hit me. Epiphany!!!. Maybe I am a super sleeper.

I then recalled from my previous years that yes, even after sleeping for 4-5 hours during day I could again give an encore as early as 11 pm.Damn, I have done the Herculean task of sleeping for a whole day, 24 hours. I am capable of falling asleep in buses, trains sitting as well as standing. Yeah!!, true it is…I have accomplished the task of taking a nap during a bus journey standing.

So, there I was happy and glee, done finding my superpower.

But then, Ironman gets his power from some nuclear device he wears in his chest, Thor is some God and has his hammer, apna Spiderman got bitten by some genetically modified spider, Batman has his super tech weapons and vehicles and of course his left hand Alfred. What do I have supporting me, my enabler? It then occurred to me at this point; maybe it’s the mess food. It is the holy power source which makes me what I am. After all, I got my power only after entering college, and that’s when mess food started.

Although the following quote has nothing to do with the above matter…. Just wanted to end this post with something strong.

“But with great power comes great responsibility”.

It actually has. Some might associate adjectives like lazy and sloth with me, but only I and few like me know the pain of dealing with “paani nahi aa raha” statements when I wake up late. But I bear it on me, silently, maybe it’s the price I need to pay, and I do pay.

DIARY OF A FRUSTRATED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Hi, I’m Charlie. I’m a final year student at MNIT Jaipur. My branch is electrical engg.
When I came back to college after holidays, I was very optimistic about my placement. I was like “mera to ho hi jaega yaar”. I have good CGPA “branch bhi meri sahi h”. Electrical dude, electrical!!. “core branch hai”. At the time of admissions, I was even getting Computer Sc., but I opted for electrical. People said that it is an evergreen branch. There will never be recession in this field. Me being too naive to understand such things did what everybody advised. There was some kind of slump, a bit of recession in IT sector when I was in first year. So, I often used to mock computer guys.

Fast forward to placement season. ZS Associates is gonna visit tomorrow. The first company. I digged about the company a bit, found it to be a consulting firm and thought “ consulting me thodi jaunga yaar, apan to core me jayenge”. But, as I had already filled the registration form, I had to appear for the written round. Cleared it… Appeared for the case study round…couldn’t/didn’t clear it, because “yaar mujhe to jana hi nhi tha”. I have heard that BPCL is gonna visit in October and my friend who is actually a close friend of BC says “meri BC se baat ho gyi hai”, ace companies like TATA Power, Siemens, Alstom are coming too, but they’ll be visiting late. He advised me to chill.

But, with course of time it started getting clear. People did get placements, but not from our branch. Companies did visit, but didn’t hire anyone from our branch. Among all these setbacks, they even said something about Siemens not being open for electrical guys this year and the thing about PSUs totally messed up the scenario.

But, I maintained my calm. At this point of time,

what other branch guys think “tera to ho hi jaega yaar”
what my branch guys think “kisi ka nahi hona, GATE ki preparation kar lo”
what I think “chill, le aa, server banaye”.( let's play CS)

With Deloitte I had hope. But, here I am today, posting “congrats bhai….phod diya…:)” on someone else’s wall and kicking their ass in frustration.

Maybe "It's about time".

"Kyai" Karega

Ghiss ghiss k assignment Chotu,
aaya hai Raju k pass,
“chal ra kya” peene chai?
sawal ka maanga hai usne jawab.

Jawab to Raju ne dena,
haan me hi tha,
magar aaj najaane kyun,
usne kar diya mana.

Bola aaj to me padhunga,
mujhe to jach gyi,
is bar exam me phodunga,
bas aur kuch nhi.

Sunkar ye baat Chotu,
ek baar ko to ghabraya,
fir maamle ko sambhalte hue,
“kyai” wala dialogue chipkaya.               [“kyai” short for “kya hi” pronounced as क्याई]

Bola “kyai” karega padhke,
isme kuch na rkha,
sab to mohmaya hai,
lagta h tune kisi se na suna.

Itni chinta “kyai” karni,
sab yahin dhara hai reh jaana,
ek pal ka jeena fir to hai jaana.

Itni to Raju ne kisi ki na suni,
bola chal chalte hain thaddi,
aaj to "kyai" chai,
meri taraf se party.

Ye “kyai” wale dialogue hote hi ghatak hain,
Raju to do me hi behek gya,
Chotu to sab padh k betha hai,
usko to  "kyai" pata.

Head Fake

Head Fake is the thing when a player moves his head to fake a change in direction.
Usually this term is used when people talk about football.  Those who follow this sport may know it well. I came to know about it only after I read the book “The Last Lecture”. On a football field it is unquestionably of great purpose but if you want to know how proficiently it can be used outside it then you got to watch this video:
Well of course  the video spans about an hour  and you will have to watch till end to get the meaning, but it’s worth your time.

Got To Be A College Dropout

Do you spend most of your time these days getting tensed with your impending future?....

Do you believe that your life could have oriented entirely different if only you knew the meaning of the word “engineering” before getting to do it?....

When you are alone, and no one’s around(well, obviously), do you sometimes sincerely realise that deep inside there’s this something which tells you that you could have been a better writer, or a lawyer, or a bar tender, or a restaurant owner, or a journalist( anything but engineer)?....

And when you are accompanied (ofcourse with your friends, who else would listen) you frequently whine about these same things atleast biweekly?....

One final and concluding enquiry….Do you often get frustrated enough and think about dropping out of college?................... Then my friend you have just come at par with my state of mind, which I have been maintaining at the least for a month, since my semester examinations resumed.
Well, let me tell you one thing at this level that this is not the time to get your morale down, as this is the time when you can foresee yourself as the CEO of any weird named company you might have thought to open in your days of frustration. Remember “Mark Zuckerberg” dropped out of Harvard then only gave us you know what. Remember “Steve Jobs” left college and started you know what. “Bill Gates” and Microsoft, “Larry Ellison” and Oracle to name a few. Got my point.
So, after much circumlocution let me hit the target. Recently, while returning to home from college, my friend and I talked about a plan to open a class restaurant and a movie theatre afterwards in Rawatbhata. Keeping in mind the rising demands of our youth, it would be the best start-up to start with. I hereby tempt whoever is interested to join with us, and get ready to change the world.

BUT…..BUT…..BUT…..BUT….the code consists of these statements too

if(“drop out of college”)
{“can join the group and have an enticing future”}
else
{“continue with your rotten life”}

Cuz you now, you got to be a college dropout  to do big things……Well, let me know if you're with me.

NEWSPAPER TIMES

It’s just any other day. You and your friends out of zeal to excel in management entrance exams like CAT, MAT or other “sarkari naukri” competitive exams like IAS,IES are engrossed in the day’s newspaper. Although some of you might be getting delighted by the awesome photographs displayed in the “page 3” or in the case of Jaipurites  the revered( in our community) “Jaipur times” a.k.a “JT”, while some other might be busy filling Sudoku, while some other might be still enjoying the Archie or Garfield comic strips….but are content with the fact that “Hey atleast  I am reading the newspaper”. I too switched over to “The Hindu” lately, just to live up to the dream of getting into a resepected B-school. But all in vain. To make my morning a “Good Morning”, I still have to traverse to the neighbour’s room, just to have a look at the “JT”.

While this thing is on, you might have had this scene brought up at least once. One of your friends will come across a numerical figure followed by the dollar sign, and then “doing-calculation-in-the-air” kind of expression will turn up on his face for a few second. For a while the uno moto of his life becomes figuring out how much is that amount in rupees and to get a feel of how big or how small is the amount indeed. Well, after few minutes he’ll make a statement like “Microsoft’s total revenue is this much or that much, I just converted it into rupees” and eventually one of you will interrupt his mighty thought process then and there by saying “Oye the current conversion rate is this much, I just checked it, you must have calculated assuming it to be 50”. If there are many people around, then it's certain that a battle will initiate over the actual, decimal to decimal value of dollar till date, till a consensus is reached.  And so , the “ghissu” goes over the “calculation-in-the-air” once again.

Whatever might have induced the talk, but such talks terminate with our own movie review segment. Such scenes never go without our hurly burly talk over the latest movies and sensual heroines, and also which movie to go for this weekend, and the most important part being which movie not to go for.

Such are our “Newspaper Times”.
